In The Beginning .

Bill Benda, MD

"So this is the last page of the 100th issue of IMCJ. And if my count is correct, I've penned some sort of nonsense inside the back cover of well over 60 of them. This fact is actually hard to comprehend-I've changed, the profession has changed, people have passed, and I've noticed it's time to update my photo yet again. Oh well. My understanding is that this issue delves into the origins of the thinking that has led to today's integrative and functional medicine, with articles highlighting people and organizations that have pioneered this field (you can identify pioneers by the arrows in their backs). To maintain the theme, Joe Pizzorno has asked for my thoughts on how I've seen the field evolve since I entered in 1998 as a residential fellow in Andy Weil's program in integrative medicine at the University of Arizona."
