Evaluating the Decade-long Tenure of Josephine Briggs Who Departs as NIH Leader for Integrative Health Research On December 1, 2017, Josephine Briggs, MD, retired as the director of the National Institutes of Health National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH). Briggs was only 2 months short of a decade at the helm of the typically $125 million/year agency. Among her accomplishments was to transition the agency's name from National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM) to the present title-excising the alternative and elevating integrative and health.
